Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman

Wonder Woman by sophisticait featuring suede boots

I wanted a way to channel my favorite super heroine without wearing a costume in public. I realize the top is actually a dress but it works for now. It is mostly affordable except for the boots. I always like to splurge on shoes... :) Hopefully I can put something like this together IRL and post a pic soon!

Caitlin's Closet: The Return!

I have returned to Caitlin's Closet, this time with more sensibilities. The last one was an embarrassment... I know, I am harsh. However, today I was feeling saucy. Vintage dress from Buffalo Exchange, saddle shoes from Savers, and cardigan from Forever21. All items put to their best use, I think :)

Thanks for stopping by!

Caitlin's Closet: The Debut!

Ello, ello!

At the behest of a certain someone, I have decided that I should start a segment on my blog entitled "Caitlin's Closet" where I post photos of some of my fashion creations. You have the great fortune of reading the very first in a series of (hopefully) countless future posts. Enjoy!

Leave your love in the comments, love!

I wanted to come up with a different way of wearing that plaid top that I usually wear open over t-shirts. I'm wearing black knee-highs but no shoes... That happens to me quite frequently. I'll have a kick-butt outfit and no shoes to go with it. Ho hum. Such is life, I suppose.

Plaid top: Forever21, skirt: Forever21, knee-highs: Target, studded belt: Wal-Mart

This is my dressed-down version of the above. Boots instead of knee-highs and denim shorts instead of a skirt.

Denim shorts: Savers (American Eagle Brand), boots: Steve Madden

So, how did that go? Any suggestions or changes you think should be made? Leave 'em in the comments!

Roaring

I am very excited for my birthday this year. I am turning 20 and, previously was not excited about this age at all. So, to make it fun and exciting I am having a Roaring Twenties party at a jazz club!

I really love the twenties. The hair, the dresses, the cars, the movies, the jazz. Exquisite. Pictured above is Louise Brooks. When I googled her name on Google Images, I was blown away! She could totally be a modern model or something! Her pictures are so awesome, it was hard for me to choose just one for my blog.

Anyway, this really doesn't have a point. I just really wanted to post that picture somewhere. (Note: I am so glad I bought that ridiculous bobbed black wig on a whim!)

P.S.

Hi, I am ADORABLE!!! Guess who's going to be around Caitlin's neck everyday from now on??? :D

Come On, Eileen

I'm currently listening to a playlist made by a guy who was born in the 70s. It is probably one of the best playlists I've ever listened to. I also look like a hippy right now... I am positive I was born in the wrong era.

Yeah, these rock. These make one go from zero to hippy/pocahontas in 3.5 seconds.

GOOD SONG:

Two of Us
by The Beatles

Two of us riding nowhere
Spending someone's
Hard earned pay
You and me
Sunday driving
Not arriving
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

Two of us sending postcards
Writing letters
On my wall
You and me burning matches
Lifting latches
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

You and I have memories
Longer than the road that stretches out ahead

Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing so low
In the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

You and I have memories
Longer than the road that stretches out ahead

Two of us wearing raincoats
Standing solo
In the sun
You and me chasing paper
Getting nowhere
On our way back home
We're on our way home
We're on our way home
We're going home

We're going home
Better believe it

Smirks from Passersby

I'm not completely positive that "passersby" is the correct term but, if not, so be it. I have invented another Cait-ism.

At the moment I am listening to my new Fleet Foxes album, recently purchased from iTunes. I adore them all of a sudden. I had heard of them in the past and I believe I illegally acquired Mykonos at some point but then never really listened to it and so it consequently got deleted. Either that or I am talking out of my big toe and I had never heard it before yesterday. Moving on, I love Fleet Foxes and very much adore Mykonos. Their harmony is to die for and the imagery of their lyrics is vivid and beautiful.

That's my review for the day.

I went to my two favorite classes today: World Religions and English. I decided that I wanted to put on my brave mask and try a funky outfit to try and get me to come out of my shell a bit at school. It worked! First of all my outfit wasn't that weird but I was wearing these awesome moccasin boots that have fringe all over them and my hair was wavy and had a braid across the top and my jewelery was all natural-looking and such. I said to someone later, "I guess I was going for the Pocahontas look." Not really but it made that someone chuckle. Anyway, when I first walked onto campus every person that even noticed me at all took one look at my shoes and smiled as they walked by. It was funny. Then I got to World Religions and during discussion I swear my alligator-boot-wearing instructor could not stop looking at my shoes. Love it. Perhaps he wants to add them to his weird shoe collection because, no joke, I have seen these alligator boots in three different colors in the course of two weeks. Awesome. Later on, I went to my English class and right when I sat down a kid in my group looks me up and down and goes, "Sweeet..." I looked at him funny and ask what he is referring to and he said, "Just... you're whole ensemble today." I laughed and said thanks. First time I actually had a "conversation" with someone in my English class. I even had to get up in front of the class today with a group and read something we had collectively written outloud and I didn't read too fast, I didn't turn red... it was miraculous.

I have thus concluded that I need to dress a bit on the unique side everytime I want to be comfortable with myself. It sounds backwards but it worked today! Whatever works, I am completely open to it.

"You gooooooooo wherever you go today..... You goooooo todayyyyy....." Gosh, this song is magnificent. That's Mykonos by the way.

OK, my drowsy cold medicine is finally kicking in full-force. Time for slumber.

Fashion, Style, Thrift. Repeat.

I don't know much about fashion but I love it nonetheless. I have a thrifting addiction and it takes hold of me just about everyday. I frequent a certain chain thrift store on a weekly basis and find it virtually impossible to leave empty-handed. If there were a Thrift-A-Holics Anonymous... I wouldn't go. The beautiful thing about this addiction is that it has nothing but positive effects. It hardly puts a dent in my (lovely thrifted) wallet and it acts as therapy. On stressful days I used to run to the nearest St. Arbucks (get it?) and grab a grande chai latte for around $4. Now, I run to my lovely little Thrift-A-Ganza* and buy a pair of vintage Ray-Bans for 1/4 of the price of that latte. I leave the store feeling thrifty and stylish, a perfect combo for what rounds out to be a perfect day.

Thrift-A-Ganza saves me money, gives me cheap therapy, and most importantly it has helped me start to develop my own sense of style. The few times that I frequent Forever21, I usually pick up a couple items that would be difficult to acquire at a thrift store around here. For example, I purchased a black sweater vest at Forever21 which has become a staple to my wardrobe. Other than the rare mall purchases, most of my outfits that I consider "cool" are made up of thrifted items. I love wearing shoes that no one else has. I love owning a green leopard print button up shirt that reminds me of West Side Story. I love my distressed cut off denim shorts a la 90s grunge era. I love the styrofoam head sitting in my room sporting a black wig and fedora. All purchased from the same place

Thrifting is an artform. One day, I would love to be the Warhol of thrifting. Nay, thrifting is an adventure and I aspire to be Indiana Jones. Either way, I love it and pray I never get sick of it.

*Names have been changed because, frankly, I don't want you taking all the good stuff.

PS, I'm stealing this idea from one of the blogs I read where the blogger posts pictures of what she wore that day. Well, the other day I felt particularly adorable so I made my outfit on Polyvore and have decided to show you. I will probably post a couple of these whenever I feel like it. Enjoy!

The shoes I own are dark brown all over and a little shorter but very similar. Also the bag is a bit different because obviously I do not own a $1000 (or more) bag. I think that one is Gucci or something haha. Mine is from Aldo. Other than that the outfit is pretty accurate.
